Sarah McDermott, Development Director

Sarah McDermott is a non-profit professional with over 20 years of national, regional and local experience advocating for human service agencies and promoting community and donor engagement. Sarah is passionate about connecting individuals and businesses with meaningful opportunities to effect change – through donations of time, talent, and yes – funding too!


Prior to joining Thames River Community Service, Sarah worked with community leaders ranging from United Way of Southeastern Connecticut to managing AmeriCorps programs at the University of Connecticut, University of Rhode Island, and Girl Scouts of Connecticut. An AmeriCorps Alum herself, Sarah’s early career was spent in Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia focusing on youth volunteer and volunteer center development.


Sarah earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Mary Washington College and a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Connecticut. Sarah lives in Ledyard with her husband Eric, son, and twin daughters. She enjoys baking, running, and spending time with her family outdoors.
